№ 4 Raw Honey
Raw Honey
This Sweetener is a Natural Sugar
Natural sugars are found naturally in foods such as fruit (fructose), milk (lactose), and some vegetables. Raw honey is created by bees from the nectar of flowers through a remarkable process where worker bees collect nectar and add enzymes from their salivary glands. The nectar is collected, transformed through enzymatic processes that break down complex sugars, and then stored in honeycomb cells where water evaporates to naturally ripen into honey with a moisture content of about 18%.
It’s a Unique Blend of Sugars
Raw honey contains a blend of fructose (38%), glucose (31%), and small amounts of other sugars like maltose and sucrose, making it easier for the body to absorb and metabolize compared to table sugar. It also retains trace amounts of beneficial enzymes like diastase and invertase, antioxidants including flavonoids and phenolic acids, and vitamins such as vitamin C and B vitamins, giving it more nutritional value compared to refined sugars.
Inside and Out
Raw honey has a sweet, floral taste that varies depending on the flowers from which the nectar was gathered – from light and mild clover honey to rich and robust buckwheat honey. Its natural sugars provide a quick energy source, while the antioxidants and enzymes contribute to overall health. Raw honey has been shown to have antimicrobial properties due to compounds like hydrogen peroxide and methylglyoxal, and can soothe sore throats and support wound healing, making it beneficial both inside and out.
