Pure Maple Syrup

This Sweetener is a Natural Sugar

Natural sugars are found naturally in foods such as fruit (fructose), milk (lactose), and some vegetables. Pure maple syrup is made by tapping maple trees and collecting the sap during the late winter and early spring when temperatures fluctuate above and below freezing. The sap is then boiled down to concentrate its natural sugars into the syrup we know and love – it takes approximately 40 gallons of sap to produce just one gallon of maple syrup.

It’s a Unique Blend of Sugars

Pure maple syrup contains a mix of sucrose (60-70%), glucose, and fructose, with sucrose being the most abundant. This gives maple syrup a smooth, balanced sweetness that is lower in glycemic impact compared to regular table sugar. It also contains beneficial antioxidants, including phenolic compounds, vitamins, and minerals like manganese (essential for bone health and metabolism) and zinc (important for immune function).

Inside and Out

Pure maple syrup has a rich, warm flavor with hints of caramel and vanilla notes that vary by grade. Its natural sugars are easily absorbed by the body, providing quick energy. Maple syrup is also known for its antioxidant properties, containing over 24 different antioxidant compounds that help neutralize harmful free radicals in the body. Because it’s minimally processed through simple evaporation, it retains much of its nutritional value compared to highly refined sweeteners.

Put it to Good Use

Pure maple syrup is about 1.5 times sweeter than table sugar. You can use it in coffee or tea, yogurt, smoothies, pancakes, waffles, oatmeal, salad dressings, and for baking. It also makes a fantastic sweetener for glazes, sauces, or marinades.
