Remix Options
Wine Variations: Use white wine (Albariño or Verdejo) for lighter version, rosé for pink sangria, or Cava for sparkling sangria. Fruit Combinations: Try stone fruits (peaches, apricots), tropical fruits (pineapple, mango), or seasonal fruits (apples, pears in fall). Sweetener Options: Replace maple syrup with raw honey, agave nectar, or simple syrup made with coconut sugar. Herb Additions: Include fresh basil, thyme, or lavender for unique aromatic complexity. Spiced Version: Add cinnamon stick, star anise, or cardamom pods during maceration. Non-Alcoholic: Replace wine with grape juice and brandy with extra fruit juice for family-friendly version.
Good To Know
Wine Selection: Choose medium-bodied Spanish red wines like Tempranillo or Garnacha – avoid expensive bottles as fruit flavors will dominate. Maceration Time: 2-4 hour chilling allows fruit to release juices and flavors to meld without over-extracting bitter compounds from citrus peels. Berry Benefits: Fresh berries provide antioxidants, natural sweetness, and beautiful color while maintaining texture better than frozen fruit. Citrus Technique: Slice citrus into rounds rather than wedges for better presentation and easier serving with fruit in each glass. Club Soda Timing: Add sparkling water just before serving to maintain carbonation and refreshing fizz throughout drinking. Storage Tips: Base mixture keeps 2-3 days refrigerated without club soda – add fresh fruit and bubbles when ready to serve. Serving Style: Use wine glasses for elegant presentation and include some fruit pieces in each glass for authentic Spanish sangria experience.
