Chia Oil
Chia seeds contain around 30% oil by weight, making them an excellent source for oil extraction. Chia oil is made by cold-pressing raw chia seeds and then lightly filtering to preserve the delicate omega-3 fatty acids and natural antioxidants. This gentle processing method maintains the oil’s nutritional integrity without using heat or chemical solvents.
This oil is exceptionally high in polyunsaturated fats (PUFAs), containing 12 grams per tablespoon. The PUFAs are 62% omega-3 alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), creating a perfect omega-6:omega-3 ratio of 1:3. Chia oil contains more concentrated omega-3 than whole seeds, providing approximately 8 grams of ALA per tablespoon – nearly matching flaxseed oil’s omega-3 content.
Omega-3 helps reduce inflammation throughout the body and protect your cells from free radical molecules that damage their growth and decrease their lifespan. Similar to the way oxidation can cause rust on our cars, free radicals cause oxidation, “rust,” in your cells through lipid peroxidation². Healthy cells equal healthy life. Additionally, chia oil contains natural antioxidants like tocopherols (vitamin E) and phenolic compounds that provide additional cellular protection.
