Total Time

Ingredients
Sandwich Base:
8 slices cassava flour bread or sourdough
1 lb (454g) roasted turkey, sliced thick
4 slices (120g) aged Swiss cheese
8 leaves butter lettuce
1 large avocado (150g), sliced
Spreads & Toppings:
4 tbsp (60g) sugar-free cranberry sauce
4 tbsp (60ml) avocado oil mayonnaise
2 tbsp (30g) Dijon mustard
1/4 cup (30g) chopped walnuts (optional)
Steps
Toast:
Toast bread slices until lightly golden brown and crispy. Let cool slightly to prevent wilting lettuce during assembly.
Spread:
Spread cranberry sauce evenly on 4 bread slices. On remaining 4 slices, spread mixture of mayonnaise and Dijon mustard for balanced flavor.
Layer:
On cranberry-spread slices, layer thick turkey slices, Swiss cheese, crisp lettuce leaves, and fresh avocado slices in that order.
Add:
Sprinkle chopped walnuts over avocado if using, for extra crunch and nutty flavor that complements the turkey beautifully.
Close:
Top with remaining bread slices (mayonnaise-mustard side down) and press gently to help layers adhere without squishing filling.
Cut:
Cut sandwiches diagonally with sharp knife for easier eating. Secure with toothpicks if needed to prevent filling from sliding out.
Serve:
Serve immediately with fermented pickles and baked sweet potato chips for complete meal that celebrates those delicious holiday leftovers.
Make it Good For The Gut (Optional)
Use fermented cranberry sauce for probiotics and more complex flavor depth. Add sauerkraut or fermented pickles for beneficial bacteria and digestive enzymes. Include sprouts for additional enzymes and fresh crunch. Use Greek yogurt mixed with herbs instead of mayonnaise for probiotics and protein boost.

Good To Know
Turkey Quality: Use thick-sliced leftover turkey for best texture and flavor – thin deli meat lacks the satisfying bite and rich taste of home-roasted turkey. Flavor Balance: The combination of sweet cranberry sauce and tangy Dijon mustard creates perfect flavor harmony that enhances rather than overpowers the turkey. Avocado Benefits: Adds healthy monounsaturated fats and creamy texture that makes the sandwich more satisfying and nutritious. Bread Selection: Choose sturdy bread that can support generous fillings without becoming soggy or falling apart during eating. Assembly Order: Layer ingredients strategically – spread condiments on both slices, add lettuce as moisture barrier, then proteins and delicate items like avocado. Storage Tips: These sandwiches are best eaten immediately but can be wrapped and refrigerated up to 4 hours if needed. Leftover Magic: This recipe transforms holiday leftovers into a gourmet experience that rivals the original feast.
