№ 14 Safflower Oil

Safflower oil is produced by cold-pressing ripe safflower seeds.  This oil has very little flavor and a high smoke point.

Safflower oil is high in omega-6 fatty acids, which can cause side effects like inflammation if not balanced with enough omega-3 fatty acids.  Unrefined safflower oil is high in the antioxidant Vitamin E, which is removed when refined.

It’s neutral flavor, high MFUAs and low saturated fats, give this oil our #14 remix ranking.

Flavor Profile

It has a light, neutral taste.

Best Uses

Best for frying and sautéing because it doesn’t impart a flavor into the dish.  The oil remains liquid at colder temperatures, so you can use it to make refrigerated salad dressings.  You can substitute it for extra-virgin olive oil, since its mild flavor and cooking utility make it a good all-purpose, neutral oil.

Safflower Oil Buy

There are two varieties of safflower oil: high-linoleic and high-oleic. High-linoleic is rich in polyunsaturated fats, while high-oleic contains more monounsaturated fats. Polyunsaturated safflower oil is good for unheated foods, such as vinaigrettes.
